Chapter Nine. Danny and GhostWriter date in order to get Danny jealous. Sue is still a bitch.

“So, your basic plot is for the two us to date in order to make Vlad jealous?” Danny asked to clear all matters when GhostWriter finally confesses his plan inside his small rundown cabin home he rented, hardly roomy but crowded and claustrophobic what with the wide range of unfinished painting, art and writing supplies gathering on the yet-to-be swept dusty floor, and papers scattered all over the furniture and taped to walls with barely eligible writing as if he hastily wrote them down.

“Didn’t you see the obvious look of jealously brimming all over his face?” GhostWriter asked, multitasking between writing, drawing, and making tea.

“I thought he was just angry that when he mistook us for a couple,” Danny answered, “I mean, no offense, but you’re not the type of role model boyfriend he wants his pseudo son to date. You’re nontraditional, free spirited, and…messy. I mean, serious, don’t you ever clean up?” Danny shooed a loose piece of giant white fabric that danced around his face, hanging over a rope that randomly graced the ceiling.

“What? You don’t enjoy my humble abode?”

“I can barely move without knocking down an easel or stepping on paper or other art stuff.” Danny muttered, “I mean, I never saw the complete inners of your manor, but from what I could gather from the my view from across the front door, the place looked fit for…well, Vlad.”

“You obviously haven’t seen my art room,” GhostWriter grinned, “I can be as messy as I want in there when I get my muse going, but I like to keep the other places clean. I’m a creative genius, not a pig.”

“Oh.” Danny silenced himself and proceeded to remove the papers from the chair located across the table where GhostWriter sat, feeling ashamed for having been told him, despite the entire house a rendering pig sty.

“DON’T!” He ran up and lured Danny away from the chair, examining the papers he touched, “Sorry, but I have these papers in a specific area around the house and I don’t need them messed up.”

“S-Sorry, but I want to sit down.”

“Can’t you turn ghost and hover for a bit?”

“I…forget it, I can stand for another few minutes, the plan is what I’m more worried about.”

“What? You don’t like it?” GhostWriter frowned while the tea signified its edibility when the kettle whistled.

“I…well…”

“I’m not desirable enough, is that it?” He asked as he turned off his stove, took the kettle, and poured it’s content onto two mugs.

“No! Yes! I mean--you’re a hot guy, but I’m just worried this plan might go debunk. We’re playing with love here and that’s pretty serious business.”

“Hot, am I?”

“Did I say that? I-I’m such a spazz.”

“Relax, kid, I’m not going to bite your head off.” He handed Danny a mug who at this point blushed from embarrassment, “Would you stop being so nervous and trust me? I’ve been through the runts of love and all it’s beauty and tragedy.”

“I-I’m sorry.” Danny quietly mumbled, “I’ll try it your way, but if things get worse, we’re switching to a new plan, okay?”

“Fine.”

“So, now that we’re in a relationship, we’ve got to keep it as real as possible, considering your Vladdie is one tricky man. Are you aversive to sex?”

“HUH?”

“You’re right, moving too fast,” He placed a hand on his chin for a moment, then whipped out his sketchbook and pencil, “Hmmm, ever nude modeled?”

“WHAT?”

Danny returned home to see Vlad already in the living room; only this time there sat two other men in business suits across from him.

“Daniel, you’re a little earlier then usual.” Vlad gasped.

“Well, I spent most of my time with Ghos--” He scanned the two men and while he felt tempted to believe there were merely two ghosts in human disguise to cater whatever business they have with Vlad, there would have been no sense in them hiding their ectoplasmic form in Vlad’s presence, so with that said, he quickly cautioned his wordings, “I was spending time with my…boyfriend.”

“Boyfriend?” One of the man, dark haired and about Vlad’s age repeated, “Vlad, you never told me your son was…what’s the term these kids like him go by these days? Queer?”

“I think you can call them ‘gay’, Joe.” The other man, blonde, slightly younger stepped in.

Danny eyed the two whom felt like vultures picking apart his sex life as they sat there casually with somewhat devious smiles gracing their faces. Danny so wanted to race to his room, but he felt compelled to stay should they felt the need to deflate his ego on his life choice.

“Ahh, how the youth of this world shifted from the much conservative views of our time,” The one named Joe laughed, “Daniel, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, don’t stand there like a useless lump, come over and sit by your father.”

Danny turned to Vlad for approval who gave off a stoic appearance. Unsure of what to do, yet wishing to help cater the business men in Vlad’s direction, the boy nervously waltzed on over and sat besides Vlad, trying in vein to hold in any inner feelings he held for that man in hopes he could muster a normal conversation and leer their directions to Vlad's favor.

“So how long have you’ve been out?” The blonde one asked.

“Umm…” Again Danny turned to Vlad for approval, should he answer or keep silent.

“I don’t think knowing about my son’s sexuality is hardly business, Lyle.” Vlad stepped in.

“If we’re going to accept the fact that he could be the next potential heir to your company, I think it’s best we know his general personality.” The one named Lyle countered, “So, again, I ask, how long have you’ve been gay?”

“J-Just recently,” Danny nervously mumbled, quickly eyeing Vlad who again responded stoically, so he added in a quick "sir".

“Is your boyfriend quite the catch?”

“Um…yes?”

“Out of curiosity, how is the sex like?”

“E-Excuse me?” Danny’s words came in unison with Vlad’s who too cried out in shock.

“Lyle, he’s uncomfortable and we have a 7:30 appointment, we really should wrap things up.” Joe butted in.

“Alright, alright. So, long story short, your business, financial, and track records are indefinitely most impressive, but I suppose we’ll get a more definite response when you host that Christmas party.”

“Of course.” Vlad calmly replied as if the previous conversation didn’t happen.

One lure to the front doors and handshakes later, Vlad let off a sigh and turned to face Danny from across who limped his way over to him.

“Your business acquirement is in the hands of a Christmas party?” Danny asked.

“Well, the business deal will come to finalize during that point, but I think they merely wanted a party as an excuse to show off their flashier side,” Vlad shook his head, “Unfortunately I have to compile to cater to their every whim until I have their company in my grasp.”

“…Not unless you possess them.” Danny slyly muttered to which Vlad gave off a harsh glare that Danny swore literally stung him.

“That is NONE of your business,” Vlad snapped.

“So, I assume you save the possession as a last resort then?” Danny coolly asked, hands crossed. He didn’t know why he played the mean card towards the man he liked, he figured right now; it was merely just a battle of ego.

“My decisions are just as questionable as your taste in men,” Vlad spat.

“What’s wrong with GhostWriter?” Danny retorted, his voice in actual honest mode. Since he’s gotten to better know the writer, the more he admired him.

“Well, I honestly don’t approve, he looks unclean, unorganized, and from what he said about his past life both alive and dead, I don’t see him as a good role model,” Vlad started with Danny carelessly letting the words bypass his thoughts as if he turned intangible, “but I also know you’re maturing and capable of making…marginally good decisions.”

“Marginally?”

“So, I guess I can allow you to see him,” As if he already lost any prongs of comfort from Danny’s recent bisexuality, sex talks, and unruly boyfriends, he struggled the most when he declared Danny and GhostWriter were allowed to parade around as a couple, “I don’t very much feel comfortable with you dating a completely older figure, but I suppose at the moment, it’s best for you to explore your sexuality.”

“Oh.” He wanted Vlad to continuously protest…then throw him against the wall and confess it was him who wished to see him naked, not GhostWriter whom upon asking Danny to model nude for him, refused. His other thought was, Do I have a thing for older guys or what?

“Have you two had…sex?”

“N-No sex. Our…relationship is just recent. Just because I’m a teenager doesn’t mean I’m going to hastily drop my pants for him.” Danny and Vlad both gave off a wry face after having heard that. The mental image seem to disturb Vlad greatly while Danny merely did due to his feelings for the man he’s NOT dating.

“Fine…but if you ever do have sex, I know I can’t stop it, so please u-use protection.”

“O-Okay.” Danny answered with a high squeak in his voice, ushering in more discomfort then Vlad shoved him with this conversation, “I-I’m going to my room now.” And for once, he gladly wanted to get away from Vlad.

Danny played along with GhostWriter’s plan. At first, the predictable signs of awkward behavior showed up. Whenever he was alone with him in private places, Danny felt the most at ease since he could be the most platonic with him and chat about his daily life and reactions with Vlad, something GhostWriter told him to keep track of. Danny likened it to an interesting form of homework. The only reluctance he felt were the numerous times GhostWriter asked him to pose nude for art purposes to which every time Danny declined. What was he's thing with nudity?

Outside in public, Danny felt nervous and clammy, his palms sweating whenever GhostWriter held his. Not only was this his first official yet unofficial relationship with the same gender, but the entirety of this plan rested in the fate of how the two could play off in order for Danny to get his real crush to hold his hand. Vlad’s reaction to anything pertaining to Danny’s love life was either kept minimal and useless, but also one of irritation and annoyance whenever he dropped GhostWriter’s name. While the namesake ghost assured him it’s only just one step into potential romance, Danny felt less confident.

The people starring constantly during their trips around Little Madison didn’t help either. He didn’t receive any gumption over his relationship until he confronted Sue about a month after the plan went into motion. There she was, eyeing them like they were sideshow attractions when GhostWriter softly kissed Danny’s lips, trying to slip his tongue if not for Danny’s still hesitation that kept his mouth firmly shut.

“Well, as I live and breathe…” Sue placed her hands on her waist, “So you’re gay.”

“Bisexual.” Danny corrected.

“And of all people to be with, you’re dating the creepy new guy.”

“Creepy New Guy? Isn’t this town creative enough to come up with a new nickname for me?” GhostWriter coolly handled the situation.

“How long you planning to stay?”

“Until I finish my novel, little girl,” He added the last two words with a hint of venom, one Danny got a kick out off, “Don’t rush geniuses.”

“Back off, my mom’s the mayor, she could buy and sell your sorry ass.” Sue cried out.

“And my dad could buy and sell your mom, so shut up.” Danny shouted.

“Danny, you deserve better then this messy, pale person,” Sue stepped in, “I’m just suggesting.”

“Well, you can help by not suggesting.” Danny stepped in, “This is the life that I chose as well as the man I chose.”

“I’m just saying!” Sue shouted, “I mean, in the end, you’re gonna end up with a girl, aren’t you?”

“What makes you say that?!” Danny snapped.

“Just…saying.”

“Okay, I think we overstayed our welcome. Come on, Danny, let’s go get some dinner.” GhostWriter gestured. He practically had to drag Danny as he sidestepped at every turn to counter any comments.

“I’m just saying we’re both rich, we’d be a lot better!” Sue shouted.

“That’s where the difference ends because at least I’m not a spoiled brat!” Danny countered.

After that incident, his bravery when out in public with GhostWriter increased, as did their relationship over the course of the months; the heated summer giving way to the crisp, cool days of autumn, and ultimately the chilly snow-infested winter of December. Aside from something as simple and innocent as hand holding, Danny felt it easier to kiss Ghostwriter, which has since upgraded to full on sloppy make out sessions. Danny figured Vlad to be a little more proper, but he handled any types of male on male love action to himself for Vlad. Dates mostly consist of dinner, occassional visits to art galleries, and movies in both Earth and the Ghost Zone. Naturally to say, seeing movies made by ghosts wasn’t that much different of an experience from Earth’s. Danny even extended his visits towards GhostWriter’s house, ever so content on eyeing him just leisurely painting away for hours on end.

At one point during late November, a violent snowstorm forced Danny to spend the night with GhostWriter. With only one bed in his home and the floor unbearably cold, Danny shared the bed with him who in all purpose didn’t needed to sleep, but laid next to him anyways, wrapping his arms around the boy and holding him close. Danny wasn’t sure if he was trying to keep him warm since being a ghost, he had no heat to give, but the comfort was much appreciated and he slept rather well. Of course, by the time he returned home where Vlad already figured he spent the night over, he suffered another set of annoyance and anger in his face, which again in Danny’s eyes he couldn’t figure out if he was mad or jealous. Damn it, everyone was right, I AM clueless.

The only thing Danny didn’t do with GhostWriter was sex. He still didn’t even let him nude model. Danny didn’t felt sure if he’d give his virginity to Vlad or someone else, but he always gave in a sigh of relief that GhostWriter kindly did not pressure or remind him of that subject. However, even the poetic writer had hormones needing to be pleased, so come Mid-December, he quietly crept behind Danny and maneuvered his hands around Danny’s torso, alternatively trying to lift his shirt if he hadn’t phased his way out.

“HEY! Cut it out!”

“For the love of, are we ever going to consummate this relationship?” He asked.

“We’re not an official couple!” Danny reminded.

“Trying to keep it as authentic as possible. We got the touches, dates, and make out session down to perfection, hell, we slept with each other with our clothes on at one point.”

“GhostWriter, please…I…I don’t think it’s right to sleep with someone I’m not really in love with.”

“…No, I figure not.” GhostWriter sighed, “Alright, fine. Sorry I tried to lift your shirt, but ghosts can be horny, too.”

After a set of awkward silence, Danny faced his somewhat boyfriend, “A-Are you doing anything on Christmas Eve?”

“Not really. Just more writing.”

“D-Do you want to come over to Vlad’s Christmas party?” Danny asked, “I know he doesn’t think too fondly of you, but--”

“Sure, I’ll come.” He answered quickly which Danny eyed him so confusedly. GhostWriter’s last meeting with Vlad was that incident during the summer, one Danny would rather keep out of his memories out of embarrassment. He never spoke much of it as a result, so he possessed no clue on GhostWriter’s expression other then the bedazzled look he just gave, “Don’t be surprised, Danny, the more Vlad sees us, the more jealous he’ll get and a big party like this, perfect choice.”

“O-Oh, yeah, of course.” Danny nodded. He should have anticipated the reaction, but he felt the more he spent time with GhostWriter; the more he pissed off Vlad.
